What is AbstrACTION Art Group?
Share
If you’ve been following my work for a bit, you’ve probably seen me mention AbstrACTION Art Group—and now it’s time I properly introduce it!
AbstrACTION is a creative, welcoming, and wildly inspiring art group run by the incredible artist Tiphiknee De Herrera. We’re currently entering our fifth season (yes, five years strong!), and the group continues to grow with each new round of prompts and exhibitions.
Here’s how it works:
Every six weeks or so, we meet up and vote on a three-word prompt—usually a mix of vivid, action-oriented words. From there, each artist creates a piece of visual art inspired by all three words. The results are always wildly different and beautiful. We’ve got members who work in clay, stained glass, custom nails, painting (in all kinds of mediums), drawing, and more. If it’s visual, it’s welcome!
At each meetup, we share what we’ve created, talk about our process, and support one another’s growth. It’s not about perfection—it’s about expression and experimentation.
I can honestly say this group has pushed me out of my comfort zone, helped me build confidence, and sharpened my artistic voice. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just starting out, this group is full of kind, open-minded people who are there to lift you up.
We cap off every season with a live art show, where some of our work is available for purchase. Our next show is on August 8th at Better World Studios in Graniteville, South Carolina, and I’d love to see you there. We’ve even got a second show happening later this year—details coming soon!
If you’re local and want to join or learn more about AbstrACTION, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d be happy to connect you with Tiphiknee or share more about how it works.
This group means so much to me, and I’m so excited to see where Season 5 takes us.
Here is a short video I created last year for our Season 3 opening reception that took place on September 6th, 2024:
Hope to see you at the next show!
Until next time, friends!
